Part L (or Document L) is an amended building standard that came into force in June 2022. It was introduced as part of the government’s ongoing Net Zero efforts and decrees that all new dwellings should be built with the aim of increasing the conservation of fuel and power. It is split into two parts, covering new builds and renovations to existing buildings.
The changes are thorough and contain numerous information requirements, including supply chain sourcing and proof of energy efficiency through complex calculations. These new requirements also include the need for photographic evidence, which must be provided throughout a project’s lifecycle and be traceable to a specific project and site location.
Photographic evidence of the components installed must be included in the wider Building Regulations UK Part L (BRUKL) compliance reports and certificates and given to both the relevant building control body and the building owner.
Part L states that high-resolution images are required of each detail within a plot, taken when each stage of the project is nearing completion so building control can carry out their audit easily and efficiently.
Field View takes these forms, processes and reports and makes them paper-free, with all the data, information and evidence safely stored in the cloud until it is needed.
Bespoke Part L forms can easily be created in the software, which prompt the user to fill in the relevant information and upload the corresponding photos or evidence for each of the plots. The ability to markup photos, electronically sign reports and easily access supporting documentation are but a few of the form features available.
Field View has the ability to create your own forms and reporting processes depending on how you prefer to work.
Failure to correctly comply with the regulations can be costly, with prosecution able to be sought for two years after the building work has been completed. Even beyond the changes to Part L, the need for and importance of a transparent and reliable golden thread of data has long been documented.
Field View is designed to replace pen and paper. Cloud-based, the information stored can be accessed anywhere and anytime, whether during a project or historically once the building has been handed over to the owner.
Compared to a conventional paper-based reporting process, a digitised solution offers an enhanced workflow and a more reliable thread than a manual paper trail. As well as saving you and your team valuable time, it can provide added peace of mind knowing that you can easily demonstrate compliance with the relevant regulations and requirements.
Field View has been developed specifically for contractors and has been helping the market drive efficiency and build better projects for more than 40 years. It offers Part L compliance out of the box, with no need for additional features or upgrades before you can begin conforming to the standard.
While standard online sharing tools do have their own uses, Field View can be curated and made bespoke to your company, its workflows and individual business needs, with the ability to create your own forms and reporting processes depending on how you prefer to work.
Offering effective and efficient compliance demonstration, Field View can also be used alongside Trimble’s other digital software and hardware solutions.
