Allied Construction began in 1972 with just a pickup truck and a shovel. Over five decades later, the company has grown into a major force in Michigan construction, merging in 2025 with Federal Paving and State Crushing to form the Federal Civil Group. Today, Allied operates four asphalt paving crews, four dirt crews, two concrete crews, two crushing plants and a fleet of 36 gravel trains.

Since starting their construction technology journey in 2019, Allied has seen dramatic improvements in efficiency and accuracy, particularly in stone placement. Their fleet now includes four Trimble-equipped bulldozers and a motor grader — two of which are configured for UTS grading — supported by three base stations and one universal total station system. For Mark “Frankie” Binder, who joined Allied in 2020 as a laborer and quickly advanced into site surveying, Trimble solutions have reshaped the way projects are planned and executed. Trained on Trimble Business Center (TBC) office software by SITECH Michigan, Frankie now uses TBC to build topographical surveys into 3D models. “Takeoffs and layout have become much more accurate and take less time”, says Binder. The ability to adapt models on the fly using Trimble WorksManager software means onsite issues can be resolved quickly, keeping crews moving and projects on schedule.

According to Frankie, Trimble Earthworks grade control platform and Trimble Siteworks software have become second nature for both operators and laborers, creating a culture of confidence and precision across the company. “We use Trimble on every job,” he said. “It’s faster, more efficient, and it just makes sense.” With over three years of experience using Trimble tech, Frankie describes his experience as “phenomenal” and recommends the subscription option as an affordable, game-changing tool for anyone in the construction industry.
